Getting Contacted by Employers

Once your skilled worker profile is live (see ‘Getting Started’), construction companies and recruiters will reach out to you when they’re interested. Historically, this can take a few days, depending on your unique skill set and where you’re based. Skilled workers on Skillit have previously signed up and received a Connection request from a company the same afternoon.

Based on your contact preferences–phone, text, or email–we’ll notify you when an employer sends you a message.

💡TIP: Make sure potential employers can easily reach you! Skilled workers with up-to-date phone numbers listed in their profiles are more likely to connect with an employer. To help show your interest, check your Skillit inbox regularly and respond to messages promptly.

When contacted by an employer, you'll receive both an email and a text message (based on your communication preferences). They'll look something like this:

There’s no downside to having preliminary conversations with potential employers. Even if you’re happy where you are, exploring new opportunities allows you to stay aware of your options.

💡TIP: If you’re unable to connect right away, letting a potential employer know that you're interested in having a conversation can help you stand out amongst other skilled worker candidates.

Showing Interest in a Job

With Skillit, you can also express interest in jobs posted by construction employers in your area.

When an employer posts a job that matches your profile, Skillit will send you an email. Here is an example of what the email will look like:

In the email, you'll see the job title, pay, and location. Click 'Interested' to share your Skillit profile with the company, and they'll be in touch!

💡TIP: Make sure your profile is up-to-date before applying!
